As Flatiron’s Pre-College Academy grows, so do the ways in which students and teachers interact with technology. This summer, Flatiron School has partnered with Nitrous Inc. to bring a cloud-coding platform to its high school summer intensives.
Nitrous removes administrative and IT burdens, so that teachers and instructors can focus on meeting specific students’ needs. Collaboration features allow instructors and students to work Google-docs style on the same code in real-time, and students can request coaching from both the local instructor and other Flatiron instructors who are remote. This results in solving problems together and amongst the class using pair-programming techniques.
Over the course of the summer, students have been learning GIT, HTML, CSS, Javascript, Ruby, and Ruby on Rails, with programs designed to train students to be professional software developers.
