With a longtime commitment to providing programming education to those who have served our country, Flatiron School has partnered with Operation Code and the National Military Family Association to present a scholarship initiative for veterans and military spouses. Together, we’ll award one full scholarship to our Online Web Developer Program as well as an additional four 50% scholarships (bringing the monthly tuition to $750/month). We’re thrilled to partner with these important organizations and are honored to help expand tech career opportunities for those who have served.

Since opening our doors four years ago, we’ve had the privilege of equipping a number of military veterans and their families with the programming skills necessary to launch careers in tech:

Michael Perritano operation codeMichael Perritano, with ten years of service under his belt, joined our online program through Operation Code with the goal of launching, as he describes it, a “career in web development that’ll allow me to join a team and contribute what I’ve learned to build web sites. A career in this industry would be a rewarding experience, as coding is an evolving and continuous learning process, and also a great way to help support my family.”

ToAnh TranScholarship recipient ToAnh Tran, a military spouse stationed in Japan, inspired us with her mission to start nonprofit that helps military spouses find jobs remotely in the tech industry. “Most military spouses are incredibly talented, independent, smart, resourceful, and fantastic problem solvers,” says Tran. “It is difficult for a military spouse to have a solid work history if they are moving every 18-36 months. If I can help other spouses learn how to code and help them get jobs remotely it wouldn’t matter if they have to transfer every couple of years.”

Through this new scholarship, veterans and military spouses will attend our Online Web Developer Program: a self-paced, online full-stack web development course with proven results when it comes to launching careers – our recent independently-verified Online Outcomes Report finds 97% of our online graduates employed six months after completing the program. We can’t wait to help positively impact the career journeys of our veterans and military spouses.
